| Customer Reviews: A great late-period solo album September 5, 2010 Adam2 This was Delaney's final solo album before his death, and it's a great collection. His voice was much rougher and deeper compared to his early work, but that's not a bad thing at all. His vocals are very raw, soulful and passionate, and his guitar work is typically unique and inspired. The backing musicians are very solid and serve the songs well. I don't think the title is describing the music offered here as anything "new" really, but used to describe Delaney's soulful blend of blues & gospel (among other things) and his unique style. His music always seemed to pour out of him with such raw expression, and this album (recorded during the last years of his life, when he was not in good health) illustrates that beautifully. Delaney had two more solo albums completed before his death, one of which the late Jerry Wexler supposedly told him was the best work he's ever done. This is a great album, so I urge everyone to buy a copy and support his releases. Hopefully enough fans will buy this so that those other two albums will be released in the near future.
Delaney We're Glad We Knew Ya ! September 10, 2009 H. Kern (anytown usa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
his last creation before his time ran out . i've only heard maybe 5-6 cuts a couple times . but the man still had "it" . repeated listens prove that. great players on this disc. then he & bonnie always attracted the best . i look forward to hearing more . Delaney may have been out of the commercial loop . but he never lost "it" .
Delaney's Still Got it June 21, 2008 John B. Ivey (Denver) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Actually, with all apologies to Delaney, this Cd is not a new kind of Blues, rather it's the same old Blues that D.B. has always done. And this is a good thing. The old cliche goes that you can take the boy out of Mississippi but you can't take Mississippi out of the boy. D.B. proves that adage. The songs are great, the musicians are superb and D.B. still has that soulful voice. Whether you're an old fan or new, give this one a spin. Enjoy.
