| Customer Reviews: Play this at my funeral. . . August 31, 2010 Dotguvguy (Sacramento, CA) This is the music I want played at my funeral. Jeff Beck is a mature Zen master musician in full control of his talent and his instrument on this CD, with the good fortune to be perfectly supported by a multi-generational threesome with prodigious talents of their own. A performance that transcends genres, if this isn't worth five Amazon stars than nothing is. If you purchase the DVD, pay attention to the reactions of the audience. Most of them realized they were witnessing something unique and historic.
Jeff Beck "LIVE" August 17, 2010 SPENCER MOON (ATLANTA, GEORGIA, US) Excellent. Great sound. Great band. Great tunes. Great guitar. If you've not taken him seriously because he is considered a "rock" guitarist, then you are mistaken. He is splendidly original and makes music that touches your soul.
Genuinely great guitar! August 3, 2010 R. Pettey (California) Jeff Beck: Iconic guitar player. This album takes the Beck legacy to a new level. As a live album, the production is excellent, but its Beck's 'live' playing that is so fantastic. How many rock/blues players would take on "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and make it work? Really different, unigue, and shows genuine artistry. It's the "Day In the Life" cut that is a total stand-out. Superb playing, great arrangement, excellent side-players and genuinely creative. A few Beck classics aided by modern electronics finish out the extensive set. While other excellent players seem to doing more of the same year-after-year, Beck is blazing a new trail with this album and expanding his art. This is Jeff Beck at his best.
Ignore the 1-, 2- and 3-star reviews May 20, 2010 John Mclaughlin (San Francisco, California, inatlantis@aol.com) First, perhaps the label (which released the DVD) intentionally left out the "guest" tracks in order to promote sales of the DVD. Maybe it isn't cricket, but it's been done before, and will be done again.
As to the quality of the recording and mix -- it sounds great on my Yamaha receiver and B&W bookshelf speakers -- hardly a high-end audiophile system, but good enough to get past the limitations of low end systems. So, if the mix sounds off, it just may be your equipment.
Finally, the performance is fantastic. Please allow an artist to grow over forty years, folks. I happen to like jazz and fusion, so the over-abundance of that approach doesn't bug me one bit. Besides, if you're a Jeff Beck fan, you've GOT to know the man likes to change it up: his entire career is one big metamorphosis!
Ignore the low reviews. If you're not into DVD audio, buy the CD. If you're into DVD audio, buy the DVD: they did a superb job capturing the show. I purchased the DVD first, then bought the CD because I couldn't get the version of iTunes I have to rip the soundtrack.
